Betula bark is a thin skin that peels easily from the trunk, as if the wind is delicately flaying the tree. while at amate a piece of inner bark is removed, boiled, macerated and stretched. "From the liber of the amate and jonote the ritual paper is produced". (Galinier 1990).  Skin is the polysemy of death, it is growth as wear and tear, it is matter as action in a cycle of composition-decomposition.
The passage of time stinks, the deities are old and from their divine breath the past that smells of ferment is expelled. The process of destruction and renewal at first begins with each printed letter to create a new historicity founded on the sounds we do not hear, it invites us to renew orality as a biological priority.
