FERMENT PROJECTION. FILM LAB
The act of projecting is understood as casting the image onto a vibrating surface: a bowl of fermenting pulque, a canvas of bacterial cellulose, and a semi-opaque screen with air circulation. This action breaks with cinematic frontality and expands perception to include the sounds and the tactile.
In the first short film, Feast of the Worms, its performative nature centres on the relationship between the sound projected by the film and the on-site sound—or the sound emerging from the recording of the percussion on the pulque and the bowl using piezoelectric sensors.
In the second short film, "Pulque para dos", celluloid and rear projection result in a loss of information in the documentary image and reveal the textures and colours of the celluloid itself, creating an aesthetic of forgetfulness.
In the third short film, Thongues, the projection is cast directly onto a semi-opaque screen with air circulating behind it. The image vibrates and changes with every movement of the screen.
